The urban settlement in Estrela was founded in the 18th Century when Lisbon expanded and nobility started building in the area. With the majestic architectural standard established, Estrela has maintained a high number of well-preserved palaces and mansions. This neighbourhood is a great place to stay if you want to escape the mass tourism of Central Lisbon. It's more of a rest and recharge zone, far away from the city noise and filled with greenery. But wait, there’s more – Estrela isn’t as hilly as the rest of Lisbon, and therefore easy to explore on foot, especially if you’re travelling with children. There are fewer attractions in this neighbourhood than in Bairro Alto, but both Basílica da Estrela and Jardim da Estrela are fantastic places to explore.
